I Hate DC's Random Crime

This Saturday was supposed to be relaxing. My plan for today consisted of taking my dog to the vet for an update on shots after which I was going to treat myself to a mani-pedi and an eyebrow waxing. At about 1PM I was going to meet my boyfriend for brunch at our favorite spot in Dupont Circle and take in an exhibit at one of the local Smithsonian museums.

The day started off fairly simple. I woke with my alarm, took a shower and prepared my dog for his walk before going to the vet. I walk the dog, go back into my apartment, pack our things, and head for the door. Walking up on my car, I noticed something that didn't look quite right. Upon closer observation, I discovered that my car had been broken into. WTF? It must have happened between 1AM and 8AM this morning. The lock had been jimmied to hell and the doors were unlocked. When I looked inside the car, there was nothing missing but a bunch of cd cases that had been empty for years. Everything else was still intact. Once again, WTF? I usually keep a pretty messy car but its just that, a mess. Some empty McDonald bags, tons of shoes and a blanket for my dog. All of the CD's I own are completely out of date thanks to MP3 players so nothing lost there. But what an inconvenience. NOTE TO THIEVES: If your going to go through the trouble of breaking into a vehicle take all that you can grab. You never know what's valuable. But instead, I'm just hugely inconvenienced.

After I got over the initial shock of being robbed, no violated (they didn't actually take anything), I noticed that my car was the only one targeted on the block. What a bunch of punks. I wish I could have caught their asses in the act. I'm not quite sure what I would have done but its a good thought. But with the neighborhood that I live in, I felt like it bound to happen. Some neighborhoods in DC just aren't safe, especially mine. I'm actually surprised I got away with not getting hit this long.

Now I have to call the insurance company (which I absolutely hate doing) and get the damn thing fixed, on top of the other million things that I already have to do. Needless to say, I continued on with plans as usual. Nothing as small as a little break in was going to stop me from completing my beautification ritual. It actually helped me to calm down. Now I can enjoy the rest of the afternoon with my honey as planned and trust and believe, I'm not addressing this until Monday morning.

I had the same thing happen to me before it was so lame. They threw my papers and such around, left out my check books and basically did nothing, nothing was missing. There was even $5 that was there and they didn't take it.

it's part of living in the city. i get my window bashed in every two years. statistically, i try to plan for it. but yeah, it sucks when it happens, especially if you have plans.

Kenyata: It strikes me ill to think that they would go through so much trouble to break in and not take anything.

Hadassah: And my toes look great!

TMM: I thought about moving out of my neighorhood and moving with my bf but his area is worse. I guess I'll have to plan for this like you do.
