Myspace Is Out of Control
I'll be the first to admit it, I'm slightly addicted to secretly checking out the lives people lead through browsing their Myspace pages. I first discovered Myspace years ago when it was still fresh and new. I developed a page, spent countless times changing and tweaking the content and then just got bored after seeking out all my friends. I abandoned the Myspace mission and became a devoted user of Facebook but I have just recently ventured back over to the other side to check how things were. It seems that Myspace is trying to compete with Facebook now in allowing you to add all of these damn applications to your page. It's completely insane how much more cluttered they could allow people to make the pages. But I've digressed.
There are just a couple of things that I am tired of seeing upon browsing folks pages. If I have to see one more profile photo in which someone is shooting themselves in the bathroom mirror with camera phones as they model their latest collection of underwear I think I'm going to haulk one. Furthermore I do not wish to see a woman cupping her boobs or trying to cover any normally clothed body part with just their hands. Equally the language that people use to introduce themselves really makes me wonder about the quality of people in the world. There's more swearing and and arrogance in their introductory statements then a script from an early Eddie Murphy movie.
But on the contrary, I absolutely adore seeing families, weddings, growing children, and people laughing and having fun. I think that's why lately I've been viewing Myspace differently. It's one of the only social websites that gives people the option to make their pages private. And you would be surprised the number of people who have public, searchable profiles.
Mine on the other hand, is not.
